Thanksgiving is a good excuse to spend time together somewhere new, but an interstate-heavy itinerary can swallow the weekend. Pick a region close to your starting city and save the long cross-country drive for a less compressed vacation. Holiday opening hours, restaurant availability and weather need individual checks—not assumptions based on a normal Thursday.

An Austin-to-Fredericksburg overnight can blend town time with Hill Country scenery; reserve Enchanted Rock separately if hiking is important. A Florida winter itinerary can focus on a single coast or the Everglades, but major parks and popular holiday destinations may still have heavy visitation.
