Seven-day trip
For seven days, work gradually from North Georgia into the Blue Ridge region or devote the full week to Savannah and the Georgia coast. Combining both is possible only with deliberate transfer days, not as a string of quick stops.
North Georgia mountains and Blue Ridge
Travel north for a Blue Ridge overnight, with Ellijay or a short mountain walk as a possible stop. The winding approach is part of the pleasure, but a mountain weekend works best when one town becomes your base and you check trail and road access before arriving.
Athens for music, food and a compact weekend
Head east to Athens for a town-centered trip: downtown streets, local performances where scheduled, and one nearby outdoor stop. It works well when mountain weather is poor or you want to park once and explore instead of spending the day on scenic highways.
Savannah and the Georgia coast
Treat Savannah as a longer coastal trip with its own overnight base. Walk the historic district first, then decide whether a beach outing fits the next day. Do not combine Savannah and the North Georgia mountains into a single relaxed Atlanta weekend.
